Accurate Measuring
for your Mini Blinds
"Measure Twice - Buy Once!..."
If you're planning to install mini blinds on your windows and/or French doors, it's extremely
important to obtain accurate measurements when you go to the store to purchase your blinds.
.........Measuring can be tricky
business. Do it carefully, so your blinds will fit the first time.
Take a tip from the experts and always measure with a steel tape measure. Cloth tape will not
give you measurements you can trust.
Measure sizes to the nearest eighth of an inch (1/8"). You will find that most windows
are not perfectly square. Don't worry that just the way it is. Measure as carefully as you can and you blinds will fit nicely.
......Many manufacturers of mini blinds won't charge you for the brackets to mount them; be sure
to ask about this when you go shopping.
You will need accurate measurements for both inside and outside mounting of your new mini blinds. With a simple formula, this is easy!
Outside mount width measurement is the distance between the outermost points where you intend to
place your mini blinds.
Be sure to consider how much light and breeze you want; the outside mount measurement should
extend ¾ inch beyond your window or door opening on each side.
Now, measure the length of the blind you need by finding the distance from where you want the
top of the blind all the way to where you want the mini blinds to reach.

You can use a similar procedure for measuring your inside window mountings. Figure the
width by measuring the top point of your window or door, the middle, and the lower point.
Figure the length you need by measuring the distance from the inside surface where you'll
install the blinds from the top-most point to the vertical lower point.
This measurement can take into account extending the blinds to the top of the windowsill; if you
have no sill, then measure the vertical length allowing the blinds to be one inch from the floor.
Mounting blinds inside of the window frame gives a neater look.
Armed with your measurements, now you can head for the store to select the type of mini blind
that's best for you.
